Freedom is often taken for granted and never fully understood or appreciated until it is revoked. The freedoms in America are plentiful, but carefully chosen as well. In the introduction of Anthony Lewis’s Freedom for the throught we hate, there is a strong emphasis on the power of the first amendment. He shows that although freedoms are proclaimed and allowed they are often suppressed and abolished at the same rate. Political leaders and others in power will always try and suppress speech that does not set them in a good light. Somejust suppress speech in fear of offending others. I believe that suppression of free speech can only lead to more harmful and dangerous outcomes due to the turmoil it causes. Rebels will always surface when a law is enacted and hate will always prevail. If these laws are left undone then opinions be published and everyone can make their own decision accordingly.
